His laboratory at EI focuses on automatic in-field and indoor phenotyping on important crops such as wheat and rice, together with multi-scale phenotypic analyses using state-of-the-art technologies, including high-throughput image analysis, computer vision, in-field remote sensing, and machine-learning related algorithms. The Zhou laboratory’s crop phenomics research is closely connected with both academia and industrial sectors such as breeding, cultivation, and agricultural services in both China and the UK. At the moment, he is in collaboration with Bayer Crop Sciences, Syngenta, ADAS and ChinaSeeds. Prior to his academic career, he has been a senior software engineer and a leading systems analyst in the UK financial industry for nearly a decade.
