NAU Rules on International Student Visa Management

These Provisions are formulated incorporating the actual administration experiences of international student visas at NAU and in accordance with the Foreigner’s Exit and Entry Administrative Law of the People’s Republic of China announced in State Council Decree No. 57 on September 1, 2013, and the Decree of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China , announced by joint decree on July 3, 2013 by the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I.Type of Visa

1Before entering China, international students should apply for a visa at the Chinese Embassy or

Consulate or other representative office authorized by the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs in their

local area. Visas for students fall into two categories:

1. F Visa: The F visa is issued to The International Students who come to China for exchanges, visits,study tours or other relevant activities;

2. X Visa: The X1 visa is issued to international students who apply for coming to China for study, training, internships and other study programs that require more than 180 days in China. The X2 visa is issued to international students who apply for coming to China for study, training, internships and other study programs that require no more than 180 days in China.

3. S Visa: The S1 visa is issued to the spouses, parents, children under the age of 18 or parentsin-

law of foreigners residing in China for work, study or other purposes who apply for visiting to China for more than 180 days, as well as for international students who need to reside in China for other personal matters; The S2 visa is for family members of international students staying or residing in China for work, study or other purposes who apply for visiting to China for no more than 180 days, as well as for international students who need to stay in China for other personal matters.

To apply for the S1 or S2 visa, the applicant shall, as required, submit the invitation letter provided by the International Students staying or residing in China for work, study or other purposes and proof of family relationship, or the certification documents required for dealing with personal matters in China.

International students are required to have an F Visa /X Visa/S Visa to come to China. Holders of other visa types who wish to pursue study in China must change their visa to an F / X /S type as soon as possible.

II. Visa Extension

International students with an F visa but planning to continue his/her study at NAU should apply for a visa extension one month in advance according to the following forms and procedures:

1. With a valid passport, the student should go to COIE to get a Verification Certificate for Visa and Residence Permit Application;

2. Present the following documents to the Department of Entry-Exit Administration of the Nanjing

Public Security Bureau to request an extension: the Verification Certificate for Visa and Residence Permit Application from COIE, a valid passport and a standard passport photo.

3. Fill out a Visa and Residence Permit Application Form at the Department of Entry-Exit Administration of the Nanjing Public Security Bureau and pay the required fees.

Failure to extend a visa in due time while remaining in China after the expiration of a visa is considered illegal residence and is subject to a fine or detention in accordance with the Foreigners’ Exit and Entry Administrative Law of The Peoples’ Republic of China.

III. Extension of Spouse Visa and Children Visa

In accordance with the regulations of the Department of Entry-Exit Administration of the Nanjing Public Security Bureau, spouse of an international student and their children under the age of 18 are entitled to apply for a 3-month visa. Unlimited applications can be flied upon expiration of current visa. However, the validity of their visas shall not exceed the validity of the visa held by the student, nor shall they exceed the validity of the residence permit granted to the student. Extension of spousal and child’s visas shall be granted according to the following procedure:

1. With a valid Student ID and passport, go to COIE to get a Verification Certificate for Visa and

Residence Permit Application;

2. Take the following to the Department of Entry-Exit Administration of the Nanjing Public Security Bureau to request an extension:

i) The valid passport of the international student or residence permit;

(ii) Valid passport(s) and a standard-sized passport photo of the spouse and (or) children;

(iii) Marital status certificate for the spouse and certificate of family relationship for the children are also required. The marital status certificate and family relation certificates issued by overseas organizations must have been verified and certified by the Chinese embassy or consulate in the student’s home country.

3. Fill out a Visa and Residence Permit Application Form at the Department of Entry-Exit Administration of the Nanjing Public Security Bureau and pay the required fees.
